Tree planting is a community. And more importantly, it’s one made up of people from all walks of life - all with the intention of working hard and planting trees. Returning planters and competitive spirits, or high ballers as they’re called, will inevitably set expectations high, others however, are there for the lifestyle tree planting nurtures. I personally was there for the latter my first year, but returned for a second season with my sights set on planting as many trees as I could. The interesting amalgamation of people drawn to tree planting, combined with the beautifully chaotic environment in which we live, is something I can’t put into words, but which I’ve instead chosen to photograph.
This series was photographed during my second season as a tree planter between spring and fall of 2017. I planted for two different companies in three different provinces, British Columbia, Alberta and Quebec.
